Valley Creek Church

About Us

Our simple story is one of meeting people in the community and inviting neighbors and new friends to be part of the adventure - it's how we started and it's what we're still doing today.

The Beginnings:

Valley Creek's  journey began in 1992 when our founding pastor and his wife, Kevin and Lisa Evans, sensed God's leading to start a new church in the Dallas area. After much planning, prayer, and patience, they were sent from their home church in the West Texas town of Lubbock with love, blessings and a few months' support. During that first year, the fledgling church met first at the Evans' home, then a movie theater, then a neighborhood school, and later, in a shopping center. Those early years were marked by laughter, tears and perseverance. They revealed the key priorities God had in mind for this new church: authentic faith, genuine love for people and passion for strengthening families and impacting nations. The Evans' heart for the next generation of spiritual leaders and the nations led them to a new and exciting chapter in their lives. In 2010, After 18 years as our founding senior pastor, Pastor Kevin and his wife, Lisa, are being sent by Valley Creek Church to form a new cross-cultural missions organization - Cultivate Leadership. Their vision is to train and mentor the next generation for spiritual leadership and urban church planting, beginning in China. As a church family, we celebrate the fact that we have the rare opportunity to send our founding pastor out to impact nations through his new international ministry.

In the summer of 2010, Valley Creek's Elder Team began the difficult process of selecting a new lead pastor. After several months of prayer and seeking the Lord, Pastor John Stickl, Valley Creek's Associate Pastor, was chosen as only the second lead pastor of Valley Creek Church.

Pastor John joined the staff of Valley Creek in 2006. John is a native of Western New York. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Buffalo, and completed his master's degree at Denver Seminary. John was an All-American college lacrosse player as well as a member of the 2002 English National Lacrosse Team, which competed in the Lacrosse World Championship. His wife, Colleen, a native of Chicago, attended Hope College (Holland, MI) and received her master's degree from the University of Denver. Before moving to Texas, John served at New Life Church in Colorado Springs. His wife, a licensed counselor, served as a correspondence writer for Dr. Dobson at Focus on the Family. John and Colleen have two children, Trey and Emma Joy.

The next chapter of the story that God is writing at Valley Creek Church has begun!

Pastor John and Colleen are filled with excitement for what lies ahead. They want to personally invite you and your family to come and be a part of the new story God is writing in our church and city.
